Airport Review: Narita International Airport (NRT)

Narita International Airport is an international airport. The airport is known as the international gateway to Japan due to its large number of international connections. Opened in 1978 the airport serves as Tokyo’s secondary airport to Haneda International Airport.

The airport serves as a hub for Japanese flag carriers All Nippon Airways and Japan Airlines. The airport also serves as an operating base for Air Japan, Jetstar Japan, Peach aviation, Spring Airlines and Zip Air. The airport is also served by another 74 airlines that offer flights to Asia, Oceania, North America, Europe, Africa and the Middle East.

Narita airport features two runways that service the airport’s three terminals. Terminal 1 is utilised by Star Alliance and Sky team member airlines with Terminal 2 primarily used by airlines within the one world alliance. Terminal 3 is used by most low-cost airlines that service the airport. 

Despite being known as Tokyo airport, NRT is located in Chiba approximately 60km east from central Tokyo. When arriving at the airport visitors have a number excellent rail options to choose from. The Narita Express and Keisei Skyliner art two express services that connect NRT with Tokyo in under 1 hour. Taxis are also readily available outside the terminal building.
