Train Station Guide: Wien Hauptbahnhof, Vienna

Wien Hauptbahnhof is the main train station serving the city of Vienna. The station opened in 2015 and offers a vast range of intercity and international destinations for travellers to choose from. The station is considered as the best in Austria and regularly ranks as one of the best in Europe.

The station was built to replace the Sudbahnhof and Ostbahnhof stations and centralise the city’s train services into a single integrated station. The main terminal building features a modern design that features all the amenities one would expect from a modern European train station.

As the country’s busiest railway station, you’ll find it easy to reach most major stations across Austria. Due to Austria’s central location in Europe, Vienna Hbf is also an ideal location to explore other major cities across the continent in France, Slovenia, Croatia, Serbia, Poland, Germany, Italy, Hungary, the Netherlands, Czechia and Switzerland all connected to the busy station.

The station is located in the Favoriten district of Vienna and is easily accessible via the city’s expansive public transportation system. Both the U-Bahn and city trams have stops at the station.
