

Dulles International Airport is a major international airport serving the Washington–Baltimore metropolitan area. The airport is the busiest of the three airports that serve the Washington–Baltimore metropolitan area and the 28th busiest airport overall across the United States. The airport is named after John Foster Dulles, a Cold War era. secretary of state.
The airport opened in 1962 with the terminal building designed by famed architect Eero Saarinen. The distinctive terminal building features a cantilever design that evokes flight through its curved ceiling.
The airport serves as a hub for United Airlines and several of its regional carriers. The airport is also served b y another 52 airlines that offer services to locations across North and South America, Europe, Africa, the Middle East and Asia.
The airport features the main terminal building and two parallel midfield terminals known as concourses A/B and concourses C/D. All three buildings are serviced by four runways with a fifth planned for the future.
The airport is located 42 km west of downtown Washington, D.C., in Northern Virginia. The airport is connected to the Washington Metro system via the onsite Dulles Airport Station which is part of the networks silver line, expect the trip to take approximately one hour. Taxis and rideshare services are also available with a shorter travel time of 35 minutes.
