Airport Review: Indira Gandhi International Airport (DEL)

Indira Gandhi International Airport is a major international airport serving the Indian capital city of New Delhi. The airport is named after Indira Gandhi, who served as prime minister of India for 15 years across two separate terms. The airport is the busiest in India both in terms of passengers traffic and cargo and is also the third busiest in Asia and 10th busiest in the world.

DEL features four runways that service the airports three terminals. Terminal 3, the newest of the three terminals, features a number of interesting sculptures spread throughout the terminal, most notably the representation of hasta mudras that is found above the immigration counters.

The airport serves as a hub for Indian flag carrier Air India as well as serving as an operating base for Indian low-cost airlines IndiGo and Spice Jet. The airport is also served by another 66 airlines that offer flights to over 150 destinations across Asia, Europe, Africa, the Middle East, Australia and North America.

The airport is located in the Palam area of Delhi, approximately 16km from the centre of New Delhi. We recommend all visitors organize their transport with their hotel before arrival. Ensure you agree upon a pickup location with your driver as the arrivals area can be difficult to navigate during busy times.
