Airport Review: Arturo Merino Benítez International Airport (SCL)

Arturo Merino Benítez International Airport is the main airport serving the city of Santiago in Chile. The airport has operated since 1967 and is Chile’s busiest international airport. The airport is also known as Santiago International Airport and Nuevo Pudahuel Airport.

The airport serves as a hub for LATAM Chile, Sky Airlines and JetSmart, although LATAM accounts the majority of the airport’s overall traffic. The airport is also served by another 24 airlines which transport travellers to cities across Europe, Oceania, Asia and the Americas. The airport is currently the fourth busiest is South America and fifth busiest across all of Latin America. 

The airport features two runways that service the airports two terminals. Terminal one serves all the airports domestic flights where all international flights arrive and depart out of terminal two. The airport features a modern design that is centred around the newly built terminal two. The opening of terminal two and other improvements made across the airport have ensured that SCL continues to rank amongst some of the best South American airports.

SCL airport is located approximately 15 kilometres from downtown Santiago. Taxis and Uber are by far the easiest option available, reaching the city in approximately 30 minutes. If you choose to take the bus, the Centropuerto and Turbus bus services offer a more economical option with a longer transit time.
