Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport is a medium sized airport located in New Orleans, Louisiana. The airport was originally known as Moisant Field before it was renamed in 2001 after New Orleans native, and iconic musician, Louis Armstrong.
The current, Cesar Pelli designed, terminal opened in 2019 replacing the former, modernist-style terminal building that was built in the 1950s and is still located across the runway from the new terminal. Although the new terminal is as modern, clean and efficient as any similar sized airport that can be found across the world, the design is too safe for an airport serving a city like New Orleans. Incorporating elements of the city or the distinctive modernist design of the former terminal would have really made MSY stand out.
Interestingly, MSY is the third lowest lying airport in the world, located merely 1.4 m above sea level. The airport features two runways that service the airports single terminal. The airport is severed by sixteen airlines that offer flights to most major cities in the United States and select locations across North and Central America.
The airport is located in Kenner city, Jefferson Parish, Louisiana. The airport is located 25km from the French Quarter and be reached in approximately 20 minutes via taxi, rideshare or private transfer. The Airport Express bus is also available for more budget minded travelers with two stops located at Elk Place at Cleveland and the Union Passenger Terminal in Downtown New Orleans.
