
St. Louis Lambert International Airport is a medium-sized international airport serving the city of St. Louis in Missouri. The airport is named after Albert Bond Lambert a famous local aviator and Olympic medallist at the 1904 St. Louis Olympics. STL is the busiest airport in the state of Missouri and is an important hub in the mid-west of the United States.
The airport’s distinctive dome shaped design dates back to the 1950s and was designed by Minoru Yamasaki, architect of the original World Trade Centre complex. Yamasaki’s design is still an integral part of the current airport acting as the central hub for both arrivals and departures. Famous airline TWA held its largest hub at the airport for a significant part of its existence.
The airport serves as a hub for Southern Airways Express, a small regional airline offering flights to select locations in the United States. The airport also serves as a focus city for Southwest Airlines. STL is also serviced by another 13 airlines that offer international flights to Canada, Mexico, Germany and the Caribbean as well as offering numerous flights to locations across the United States.
STL airport is located approximately 15 km from downtown St. Louis. A taxi or rideshare will get you there easily in approximately 20 minutes. The airport is also conveniently connected to the MetroLink, making it easy for visitors arriving at either Terminal 1 or 2 to reach the city.
