Bar Review: Crossfield’s Australian Pub, Vienna

Crossfield’s Australian Pub is an Australian themed pub located in the heart of historic Vienna. Located around the corner from the stately Vienna opera house, the bar offers Australians a home away from home and visitors the chance to experience the weird and wonderful world of the land down under.

The bar features an interesting backstory of a one John F. Crossfield moving his outback pub to Austria after the original venue burnt down in the Australian outback. Austria sound close enough to Australia to the outback publican making it the perfect place to set up shop.

The bar features two levels with the top level, front bar resembling an outback pub and the lower level themed to look like an opal mine. The bar features all the stereotypical items one would associate with Australia glued to its walls with banknotes from around the world glued to the ceiling.

The menu features all the food you’d expect to find at a bar in Europe however Australian pub classics like the chicken schnitzel and fish and chips are nowhere to be found. The selection of Australian beers is also lacking with few options available and none on tap.

Nevertheless, Crossfields is a fun place to hang out when visiting the Austrian capital offering a change of pace from the more formal atmosphere found at most venues in Vienna.
