Rajadamnern Stadium is a famous sporting arena located in Bangkok, Thailand. The stadium is world renowned as being one of the premier venues for hosting modern Muay Thai and is also considered as the birthplace of the famous Thai sport.
Construction on the arena began in 1941 under the orders of Prime Minister of Thailand, Plaek Phibunsongkhram. Due to World War II, the opening of the arena was delayed until 1945. The stadium originally featured an open-air design until a roof was added in the 1950s increasing the practicality of the venue.
Until 2022, the arena had changed very little from its original design, with its old-world aesthetic still mostly intact. The venue always felt rough around the edges making it the perfect place to host the intense bouts that are held inside. The atmosphere on a fight day is electric with street vendors filling the streets outside. Once inside you’ll find the main seating bowl surrounding the ring with an upper, rowdier section separate by a cage.
Rajadamnern Stadium is centrally located and the better of the two Muay Thai venues that can be found in Bangkok. The other option, Lumpinee Boxing Stadium is a modern arena that is located further out from the city centre. Muay Thai bouts are held on most days of the week and tickets can be bought directly through the arena’s official website.
