Kuala Lumpur International Airport is the main airport serving the city of Kuala Lumpur in Malaysia. The airport is the largest and busiest in Malaysia and ranks 23rd in the world in terms of overall passenger traffic. The airport opened in 1998 replacing the city’s former international airport, Subang International Airport.

KUL is the main hub for Malaysian Airlines and Batik Air as well serving as a major operating base for Air Asia. The airport is also served by another 63 airlines that service cities across Asia, Europe, Africa and Australia. Three runways service the airports two terminals and smaller satellite building. Both terminals cater to international and domestic flights with only distinction being the types of airlines that utilise each building. Terminal 1 tends to serve larger airlines where terminal 2 is mostly dedicated to low-cost airlines.

Terminal 1 is by far the more aesthetically pleasing of the two with a design that draws heavily from traditional Malaysian architecture. Terminal 2 features a more straightforward and modern design that suits the budget approach of the airlines that utilise this terminal. Terminal 2 also features Gateway@klia2, an attached four level shopping centre that features 225 food, beverage and retail options. Improvement projects are always taking place at Kuala Lumpur International Airport which has ensured that it continues to remain as one of the better airports in South East Asia.

KUL airport is located approximately 60km from the centre of the Kuala Lumpur. The best way by far to reach the city is using the excellent KLIA Ekspres train service. This fast, clean and efficient service will get you from the airport to the city’s major train station KL Sentral in as little as 28 minutes.
