Stadium Review: Estadio Quisqueya Juan Marichal, Santo Domingo

Estadio Quisqueya Juan Marichal is a baseball stadium located in Santo Domingo. The stadium was built in 1955 and features a maximum seating capacity of 25,000. The stadium serves as the home of both the Tigres del Licey and Leones del Escogido in the Dominican Republic Professional Baseball League (LIDOM).

The stadium was originally known as Estadio Trujillo after the former Dominican dictator Rafael Trujillo. The stadium was later renamed as Quisqueya in honour of the island of Hispaniola, the original name of the island that the Dominican Republic shares with Haiti. The name of Dominican hall of famer Juan Marichal was added to the stadium’s official name after renovations were complete in the late 2010s.

The stadium features a design based on the former Bobby Maduro Miami Stadium which stood from 1949 to 2001. Despite having been renovated several times since opening, the stadium still has a classic feel which is perfect for smaller scale Caribbean baseball matches.

The stadium is also a popular concert venue that has hosted several popular Latin American artists over its long history.

The stadium is located west of the Zona Colonial and north of Santo Domingo downtown area. The easiest way to reach the stadium is to organise transport with your hotel or rideshare.
