

Estádio Olímpico Nilton Santos is a multi-purpose stadium located in Rio de Janeiro. The stadium opened in 2007 and features an adjustable capacity of 70,000 depending on the event. Throughout the course of its history the stadium has also been known by a number of different names including the Engenhão and Estádio Olímpico João Havelange.
The stadium opened in time for the city’s hosting of the 2007 Pan American Games where it hosted the athletics program and select football matches. At the conclusion of the games, the stadium essentially took on the roll of the city’s second stadium taking over from the world-famous Maracanã during its lengthy restoration in preparation for the 2014 World Cup.
The stadium is now primarily known as a football stadium serving as the home ground of Brazilian club football team Botafogo. The stadium also served as the main venue for the athletics program at the Rio 2016 Olympics as well as hosting eight football group games known as the Olympic Stadium throughout the course of the games.
The stadium is located in the Engenho de Dentro neighbourhood of Rio de Janeiro. The venue is connected to Rio’s SuperVia rail network via the Olímpica de Engenho de Dentro station located directly adjacent to the stadium.
