

John Cain Arena is a multi-purpose arena located in Melbourne. The arena was built in 2000 and features a maximum capacity of 11,000. The arena was previously known as Vodafone Arena, Hisense Arena, Melbourne Arena before adopting its current name in 2020 named after a former premier of Victoria.
The arena is best known as being one of the show courts during the annual Australian Open as the second largest court at Melbourne Park. The arena is an all-weather venue with its retractable roof allowing for matches to played regardless of the weather.
The arena also serves as the home court of Melbourne United and South East Melbourne Phoenix in the National Basketball League. Due to the league’s season held over the Australian summer months some games are played with the arena’s roof open which is rare for professional basketball.
Interestingly, the arena is also a velodrome with the track covered by the stands when not in use. The stadium is also a popular concert venue for smaller sized shows.
John Cain Arena is easily accessible from anywhere in Melbourne via the city’s extensive public transportation network. If arriving by train alight at either Richmond Station, Jolimont Station or Flander’s Street Station. If using the city’s trams, use tram 70 for stop 7C or tram 48 for the MCG stop. The 246 bus is another bus which stops at the corner of Olympic Boulevard and Punt Road.
