The Museo Nacional de Antropología is a famous museum located in Mexico City. The museum’s collection is significant as it contains some of the most important archaeological artefacts from Mexico’s pre-columbian history.
The museum is both the largest and most visited in Mexico and regularly ranks within the top 20 most visited museums in the world.
The museum building that houses the impressive collection is a monument in and of itself centred around a courtyard that is partially covered with a distinctive umbrella-shaped roof that is supported by an inscribed water fountain pillar.
Several exhibition halls surround the courtyard with each dedicated to a different part of Mexico’s anthropological history. The center hall is by far the most popular containing most of the museum’s most important artefacts. Within this hall you’ll find the original Aztec sunstone calendar an iconic image of Mexico and one you’ll be likely to see in several places across country during your visit.
The museum is located within Chapultepec Park. Its central location makes it easy to reach from anywhere in the city.
