Hotel Review: Phoenix Hotel, Yogyakarta

The Phoenix Hotel is a historic hotel located in Yogyakarta, a city located on the island of Java in Indonesia. The over 100-year-old hotel has stood the test of time embracing Indonesia diverse culture and history.

The hotel was originally constructed as a private residence in 1918 using a new indies style architectural style that blended elements of Indonesian and Dutch architectural styles.

The hotel would serve various purposes over the next 70 years before becoming a luxury hotel in 1988. The hotel’s historical significance was recognised in 1996 when it was awarded a heritage award.

Rooms are clean and feature colonial style furnishings to match the style found throughout the hotel. The hotel features an on-site restaurant, a well-equipped lobby bar and a spacious outdoor pool.
