The Missouri Athletic Club is a historic hotel located in Downtown St. Louis, Missouri. Over its 120 years of operation along Washington Avenue, the hotel has become an integral part of the city’s social life as well as earning itself a place on the U.S. National Register of Historic Places and a designation as St. Louis Landmark.
These designations are well deserved with the hotel having carefully maintained its classic, old-world aesthetic across its exteriors and interiors. The building is built in Renaissance Revival architectural style that still manages to impress as the rest of the city has grown around it. The ground floor lobby area is all class, covered in intricately carved mahogany and adorned with a lavish selection of paintings and sculptures.
Although technically a member only club, you don’t need to be a member to stay at one of the hotel’s 74 rooms. Rooms are small but comfortable with era appropriate furnishings and all the appointments you’d expect from a hotel of this size. Most rooms feature excellent views of either downtown St. Louis skyline or across the famous Mississippi River.
The hotel also features the excellent Jack Buck Grille, a restaurant and bar located adjacent to the check in desk on the ground floor. The bar features the same old-world aesthetic found throughout the hotel and is interestingly one of the only places in the city where you can still smoke indoors.
The club’s convenient location makes it an excellent choice when exploring downtown St. Louis located within walking distance from most of the city’s top attractions, including the St. Louis Gateway Arch and Busch Stadium.
