

FNB Stadium is a multi-purpose stadium located in Johannesburg, South Africa. The stadium features a capacity of 94,736 and is the largest stadium in Africa. The stadium is more commonly known as Soccer City due to its history as a venue for hosting association football matches.
The stadium opened in 1989 and was significantly remodelled in 2009 in preparation for South Africa’s hosting of the 2010 FIFA World Cup. The distinctive exterior design was added during these works and was intended to resemble a calabash, a type of African pot.
The stadium is the home ground for South African football team Kaizer Chiefs as well as hosting select matches for the South African football and rugby union team.
The stadium is notable for having hosted Nelson Mandela’s first speech in the city after his release from prison in 1990 as well as hosting his funeral in 2013.
FNB Stadium is located in Nasrec, a suburb of Johannesburg. The stadium is serviced by the Johannesburg Metro Rail network, alight at the Nasrec Station which is located directly across from the stadium.
