Stadium Review: Marvel Stadium, Melbourne 

Docklands Stadium is a multi-purpose stadium located in Melbourne. The stadium opened in 2000 and features a capacity of 56,347, the fifth largest in Australia. The stadium is currently known as Marvel Stadium for sponsorship reasons. The stadium has also been known as Colonial Stadium and Etihad Stadium throughout its history.

The stadium was built as part of the wider urban renewal project of the Docklands area of Melbourne a former busy port. Upon opening the stadium became the first in Australia to feature a retractable roof. The stadium also features movable seating, another first for Australia. 

The stadium is primarily used to host Australian Football League (AFL) matches with five of the competition’s 18 teams using the venue as their home ground. The stadium is also used for cricket, rugby league and association football.

The stadium is located in the Docklands area of Melbourne. The city’s Southern Cross Station is located next to the stadium and is a stop on the V line and Metropolitan Line. You can also reach the stadium by tram 35, 70 and 75 which stop on Harbour Esplanade directly in front of the stadium.
