Airport Review: William P. Hobby Airport (HOU)

William P. Hobby Airport is an international airport serving the city of Houston in Texas. The airport primarily serves as a domestic airport with select flights to Central America and the Caribbean also available. The airport is named after former Texas governor, William P. Hobby.

HOU was Houston’s first and primary airport until George Bush Intercontinental Airport opened in 1969. The airport has also been known as Houston Municipal Airport and Howard R. Hughes Airport.

The airport is not a hub for any airline but does serve as an operating base for Southwest Airlines which is by far the airline with the most flights out of HOU. The airport is also served by another seven airlines that offer flights to cities within the United States.

The airport features three runways that service the airport’s single terminal building. Facilities are above average for a primarily domestic airport of this size.

HOU features its own transit center transportation hub located at the airport. Houston METRO buses 40, 50, 73 and 88 departure from the transit center. Taxis and rideshare services are also readily available.
