Pub Review: Mortdale Hotel, Mortdale, Sydney

The Mortdale Hotel is pub located in Mortdale, a southern suburb of Sydney. The pub is heritage listed and is known locally as the Morty.

Opened in 1930 as Hotel Saltwell by Daniel and Jessie Saltwell. The pub would eventually take on its current name in 1949 after it was bought by brewer Tooth & Co.

The pub is built in the Inter-War Free Classical style with its exterior design remaining virtually unchanged in over 100 years and still a prominent feature on the corner of Pitt and George Street. The pub’s interiors appear to have been recently renovated with lots of wood panelling and vintage-style lighting added to the triangle shaped front bar area.

The pub also features accommodation with 18 newly renovated ensuite rooms located upstairs.
