
Soekarno–Hatta International Airport is a major international airport serving the city of Jakarta in Indonesia. The airport regularly ranks within the top ten busiest airports Asia and is amount the busiest in south east Asia. The airport is named after two prominent figures in Indonesian history, Sukarno and Mohammad Hatta, the country’s first President and Vice President.
The airport serves as a hub for Indonesian flag carrier Garuda Indonesia and impressively another nine airlines including Batik Air, Citilink, Indonesia Air Asia, Lion Air, NAM Air, Pelita Air, Sriwijaya Air, Super Air Jet and TransNusa. The airport is also served by another 42 airlines that offer flights to city’s across Asia, Oceania, Europe, the Middle East and Africa.
The airport features three runways that service the airports three terminals. Terminals 1 and 2 were part of the airport’s original design and were built in a Javanese style that resembles pendopo architecture with tropical garden filling the spaces between each building. Terminal 3 is the newest of the three and although modern doesn’t really incorporate any of the local architectural style in its design making it look like any modern airport you’ll find around the world.
The airport is located across Benda and Cengkareng approximately 20km northwest of the center of Jakarta. Soekarno–Hatta Airport Commuter Line connects the airport and the city centre at Manggarai Station in approximately one hour. Taxi and shuttle services are also available but rideshare services from the airport are limited.
