La Guardia is a major airport serving New York City and its surrounding areas. The airport opened in 1929 with civil flights commencing in 1939. The airport is the third busiest in the New York metro area primarily serving flights to domestic locations with select international destinations. The airport is named after Fiorello H. La Guardia mayor of New York City from 1934 to 1946.

The airport is the 19th busiest airport in the United States. Extensive renovations took place at the airport over a period of 10 years that were completed in 2025. Renovations significantly improved facilities and modernised public areas and amenities.

The airport features three terminals A, B and C. All three terminals are connected via walkways and shuttle bus services. Interestingly for an airport serving a major city like New York, the airport only features two runways. When flying into LGA you’ll be treated to some of the best views of any airport in the world with most planes passing the world-famous Manhattan skyline.

The airport serves as a hub for American Airlines and Delta airlines. The airport is also serviced by another 11 airlines that offer flights several domestic locations and select international destinations across North America.

LGA is located in East Elmhurst and area within the borough of Queens. The airport is not connected to the New York City Subway system with buses the only method of public transportation. The M60 Select Bus Service and the Q48 bus services all of the airports three terminals. Q70 “LaGuardia Link” Select Bus Service and the Q72 bus serve all terminals except terminal A with the Q47 serving terminal A only. Taxis and rideshare services are also available.
