The hero of Waterloo is a historic pub located in the Rocks, Sydney’s old town, located north of the city’s CBD. The pub is one of the city’s oldest having traded more or less continuously since 1843.

The pub is classic example of colonial Sydney architecture featuring a mostly sandstone design both inside and out. The interior of the small front bar has that well-worn fell about it with its sandstone walls bearing all the marks of a building with over 100 years of history. The front bar also features a small stage that hosts regular jazz and folk music.

Interestingly, the pub is also believed to be haunted with the ghost of Anne Kirkman believed the roam the venue after hours. Guided tours of the pubs cellar are also available which features an underground tunnel that is connected to the harbour that was reportedly used to smuggle rum.

The hero of Waterloo is the city’s second oldest hotel after the lord Nelson hotel located close by in millers point. The pub is one of the area’s best and a must visit when exploring the rocks.
