Pub Review: The Cauliflower Hotel, Waterloo, Sydney

The Cauliflower Hotel is pub located in Waterloo, a southern suburb of Sydney. The pub has operated from the same corner since 1838 making it one of the oldest in the area.

The name of the pub is believed to have been inspired by George Rolfe, a former market gardener who made enough money from large crop of cauliflower to build the pub. The venue still features the same name with its eye-catching cauliflower and crossed rake sign a reminder of its humble origins.

Whilst the pub’s modest exterior has remained virtually unchanged almost 200 years later the interiors resemble very little of the what the old pub would have originally looked like. Hard to describe what they were going for on the inside with vintage style concert poster covered walls sharing the small front bar with panels of fake foliage across the ceiling.

The pub also features a separate rooftop cocktail bar called the Forgotten Cask. You’ll find over 100 different types of rum behind the bar and an extensive cocktail list that you can enjoy in this small Caribbean inspired setting.
