How to Visit Mozarthaus in Vienna

Mozarthaus is a museum dedicated to the life and work of Wolfgang Amadé Mozart. The museum is located within a building that was the famous composer’s residence from 1784 to 1787 and his only surviving residence in Vienna.

The museum is spread over the buildings four floors and explores various aspects of the composer’s life and work. Particular emphasis is placed on Mozart’s time in the city from 1781 to 1791 and how the city influenced his work.

Mozarthaus is recognised as the place where Mozart created the majority of his music. The museum occupies all the levels of the building and is separated into three sections: Mozart’s Vienna, Mozart’s Music and Mozart’s Apartment. The museum is the best place in the city to learn about the famous composer and his music in the very place where he lived and worked.

The museum is located within Vienna’s old town walking distance from the city’s famed St. Stephen’s Cathedral. If visiting from outside the old city, visitors can use either line U3 and U1 on the Vienna U-Bhan and alight at the Stephansplatz station is located adjacent to St. Stephen’s Cathedral.
