Pub Review: Convent Garden Hotel, Haymarket, Sydney

The Convent Garden Hotel is pub located in Haymarket an inner-city suburb and part of Sydney’s CBD. The venue is located next to the southern gate of Sydney’s lively Chinatown.

A pub has operated on the same corner since 1871. Originally the Millers’ arms, then Engineer’s hotel before being rebuilt in 1911 and renamed its current name. The Tai Yuen Cafe operated for many years from the venues first floor, one of the area’s first and most popular for many years.

The venue was recently renovated receiving a slight theme throughout the front bar area. The exterior of the pub remains mostly unchanged still displaying Chinese characters from former business that have occupied the building.
