Pub Review: Glenroy Hotel, Alexandria, Sydney

The Glenroy Hotel is a pub located in Alexandria, a southern suburb of Sydney. Despite its age, the venue is still one of the best in an area of Sydney which has changed significantly over the past 150 years.

The pub was established in 1856 on what was then the main road between Sydney town and Botany Bay. The pub would later become the Salutation Hotel in 1879 before adopting its current name in 1898. The current building dates back to the early 1900s when it was rebuilt in a blend of Federation and Tudor architectural styles.

Where the venue would have once been filled with workers from the many factories that used to occupy the surrounding area, these days you’re more likely to find a relaxed crowd filling the polished front bar.
