The Sydney ferries is a ferry network operating across Sydney harbour and down the Parramatta River to the city of Parramatta in Sydney’s western suburbs. The service is part of Sydney’s wider public transportation network and is administered by the Transport for NSW transportation authority.
The service includes nine routes that cover an extensive stretch of Sydney’s picturesque waterways. Many of Sydney’s popular waterside locations are reachable via one of the networks distinctive green and gold ferries. The wharf at Circular Quay, adjacent to Circular Quay train station and light rail/tram stop, serves as the network’s hub with most services arriving and departing from this location.
Although serving as an integral part of the city’s public transportation network, the service is also an excellent way for visitors to discover many of Sydney’s top attractions. The service is an affordable, reliable and easy to use way of getting around and is an attraction in and one of itself one of the best experiences to be had when visiting Sydney.
Highlights include the F1 ferry route to Manly and F4 ferry route to Pyrmont Bay, both services alight from Circular Quay and offer riders some of the best views of the Sydney Opera House, Harbour Bridge and the city’s growing skyline.
Visitors wishing to use the Sydney Ferry network will need either an Opal card, credit card/contactless payment method or a single trip ticket available at most ferry wharfs. Visit trip planner for current service times and detailed route maps. If you’d like to know more, visit the network’s official website for more information.
