Orlando International Airport is an international airport serving the city of Orlando as well as acting as the primary international gateway for the state of Florida. The airport is the busiest in the state of Florida and the seventh busiest across the United States.

The airport was originally built in 1942 as a military airfield providing support to several operations within the region and abroad. The airport would begin to cater to military and civil flights in the 1960s before converting to full civilian operations in 1975. The opening of Walt Disney World in 1971 would increase air traffic to Orlando significantly with MCO being the logical option and best access point to the newly built them park.

The airport serves as a hub for regional airline Silver Airways, a focus city for Jet Blue and an operating base for Avelo Airlines, Breeze Airways, Frontier Airlines, Southwest Airlines and Spirit Airlines. MCO airport is also serviced by another 37 airlines that offer over 850 daily flights to 135 domestic and international locations across North America, South America, Europe and the Middle East.

The airport features four runways that service the airports three terminals. The airport features a unique design that incorporates the unique landscapes found around the local area. The main terminal building is shared Terminals A and B with gates spread across four separate concourses that are connected to the main terminal building via elevated people movers. Terminal C is located to the south of the main terminal building and caters primarily to airlines servicing international destinations.

The airport is located approximately 9.7km from downtown Orlando. The airport is connected via Terminal C to the airport’s intermodal terminal, a major transportation hub that connects the airport to major locations around Florida via the Brightline train network. Taxis and rideshare are also available and can reach downtown in as little as 19 minutes and most of the major theme park areas in between 20-30 minutes.
