Stadium Guide: Allianz Stadium, Sydney

Allianz Stadium is a multi-purpose stadium located in Sydney, Australia. Opened in 2022, the stadium has a capacity of 42,500 and is the home ground of Sydney FC, Sydney Roosters and the NSW Waratahs. Allianz Stadium was built to replace the former Allianz Stadium which operated from 1988 to 2018 on the same site. The stadium is also known as Sydney Football Stadium when used for international sporting events.

It’s clear the new stadium was designed from a fan first perspective with a number of design elements addressing some of the issues found at the old Allianz Stadium. The new stadium features a wider concourse area throughout the venue featuring a greater variety of food and drink options. In the stands you’ll notice far better sight lines from anywhere in the stadium with very little obstructions. The new roof covers 100% of spectators and has the ability to illuminate in the colours of the home team.

The seating design at Allianz Stadium draws heavily from Indigenous themes and designs. Each stand features a unique design and is intended to tell a story which is officially called ‘Two Worlds Colliding — Water and Land.’ While on the outside, the stadium is covered in distinctive bronze cladding that was intended to connect the stadium to the surrounding area via larger open public areas on each side.

When heading to the stadium from the Sydney CBD we recommended using Sydney Light Rail from Central Station to the Moore Park stop which is a short walk from the entrance of Allianz Stadium.

Allianz Stadium 2.0 is definitely an improvement on the former stadium. Although the stadium lacks the history of the former venue it is overall a better designed stadium that caters to the needs of modern spectators.
