Airport Review: Hamad International Airport (DOH)

Hamad International Airport is the main airport serving the city of Doha in Qatar. The airport is named after Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani the former Emir of Qatar. The airport opened in 2014 replacing Doha International Airport, the city’s former international airport.

The airport features two parallel runaways, the first of which is one of the longest runways in the world. The airport features one terminal that is split into five concourses, A to E. A cable linear runs through the inside of the terminal connecting passengers to each concourse. The airport is the hub for Qatar Airways which connects travellers to 170 destinations across five continents. The airport is also served by another 44 international airlines.

The interior of the airport features a modern design with a number of attractions located throughout the terminal. Some of these attractions include the indoor tropical orchard garden that can be found between concourse D & E and the popular “Lamp Bear” sculpture located in the airport’s grand foyer.

DOH airport is located approximately 15km from most popular attractions around Doha. Expect the trip to take approximately 25 minutes by taxi or Uber. The airport is also connected to the Doha Metro via the red line making it easy to reach most locations around the city.
