Casino Review: Argentino Hotel Casino & Resort, Piriápolis

The Argentino Hotel is a hotel and casino located in Piriápolis, a resort town on Uruguay’s Atlantic coast. Upon opening in 1930, the hotel was the largest hotel in South America, a title it held for many years.

The idea of the hotel was conceived by Francisco Piria, founder of the city of Piriápolis and figurehead behind much of the other attractions and infrastructure that can be found around the city. When the hotel opened it featured six floors containing 300 rooms and 56 suites that were furnished with some of the best linen and furniture available from all across Europe.

Visitors are welcomed to the hotel via a high-ceilinged lobby area with an ornate staircase and arched stained glass window at its centre. The left wing of the hotel also features a modest sized casino that features several poker machines, a selection of table games and a small bar. Throughout the hotel you’ll also find a number of glass cases containing artifacts from the hotel’s 100-year-old history.
