
Cape Town International Airport is a major international airport serving the South African city of Cape Town. CPT airport opened in 1954 and is the second busiest airport in South Africa and the sixth busiest in Africa.
The airport is primarily used for flights around Southern Africa whilst also severing select international destinations. If visiting from abroad, you’re most likely to enter South Africa through Johannesburg rather than Cape Town.
Significant redevelopments took place in the lead up to the 2010 FIFA World Cup with major works taking place across the central terminal building. Further expansions were planned to take place in the 2010s but were postponed due to the drop in passenger numbers during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Cape Town Airport is located 20km from the Cape Town city centre. Visitors can reach the city centre by taxi or personal transfer in as little as 20 minutes. The MyCiti Airport Bus is also available reaching downtown Cape Town in approximately 30 minutes.
CPT Airport is a classic second city airport that features all the amenities of an airport that services both domestic and international locations without any of the issues that often plague other large airports across the continent. The most recent round of renovations still feels fresh over ten years later ensuring a comfortable visit for travelers.
