

The Hie Shrine is a Shinto Shrine located in the Chiyozaki area of Tokyo. Located within one of the busier parts of the city, amongst several modern skyscrapers, the shrine offers the classic contrast of old and new that Japan is known for.
The exact establishment of the shrine is unclear although some theories suggest it may be over 700 years old. Most of the current structures date back to 1958 when it was reconstructed.
One of the most popular areas of the shrine is the side entrance which features a row of red torri gates that connects the top of the hill to street level.
The Hie Shrine is easily accessible via the Tokyo Metro. Alight at Akasaka-mitsuke Station on the Ginza and Marunouchi line and walk approximately 5 minutes to reach either of the shrine’s entrance.
