Pub Review: Shelbourne Hotel, CBD, Sydney

The Shelbourne Hotel is pub located in the centre of Sydney’s CBD. The venue opened in 1902 and would have been one of the area’s most popular when first constructed due to its location close to the bustling wharves of Darling Harbour.

The building was converted to a restaurant from 1975-2000 before reverting back to its original purpose at the turn of the century.

The venue takes full advantage of its tall but small footprint, squeezing in a rooftop bar and the indoor/outdoor main bar which is spread across two levels and two different streets.

There were plans in the early 2020s to build a tower above the venue which would have gutted most of the building’s interiors. Thankfully these plans don’t appear to be on hold.
