

The Stadio Olimpico is a multipurpose stadium located in Rome, Italy. The current iteration of the stadium was opened in 1990 although a stadium has existed on the same site since the 1920s. The stadium currently features a seating capacity of the 70,000 making it the largest in Rome and second largest in Italy after the San Siro.
Although construction on the site began in 1928 the majority of the current structure was completed in 1953 and opened as Stadio dei Centomila. The stadium’s name was changed to Stadio Olimpico when Rome was awarded hosting duties for the 1960 Olympic Games. At the games the stadium hosted the opening and closing ceremonies and the athletics program.
The stadium was reconstructed in the late 1980s in preparation for the country’s hosting of the 1990 FIFA World Cup. The stadium hosted six matches at the tournament including the final between Argentina and West Germany. The stadium was also used as the main venue at the 1968 and 1980 European Championships as well as hosting select matches at the 2020 edition of the tournament.
The stadium is the home ground of both SS Lazio and AS Roma Italian football teams. The stadium also regularly hosts matches for the Italian national football and rugby teams. Due to its size the stadium is also popular concert venue for local and international musicians and entertainers.
The stadium is located in northwestern Rome within the Foro Italico sports complex. The stadium can be reached via the Rome tramway network. Alight at Piazza Mancini, the final stop on line 2 and walk approximately ten minutes to the entrance of the Foro Italico sports complex.
