Cocktail Recipe: Martini

The martini is a classic cocktail that is traditionally made of gin and vermouth. The cocktail is one of, if not the most popular mixed drink ever created, synonymous with cocktails and cocktail making. Despite its simple two ingredient recipe many variations exist.

Like most classic cocktails the origin of the iconic drink is unclear. Some believe the vermouth brand Martini was part of the drinks with several bartenders also claiming the drinks creation.

Due to its popularity and long history, the drink has become part of popular culture regularly featuring in films and television shows. The most recognisable example is the drink of choice for James Bond who famously orders a vodka martini, shaken not stirred in most of the long running series films.

The drink is easy enough to make at home and you’ll likely find it at any bar around the world. If making the drink at home be sure to chill your glass before serving.
