Airport Review: Vancouver International Airport (YVR)

Vancouver International Airport is the principal international airport serving the city of Vancouver, Canada. The airport is the second busiest in Canada and major hub for flights between Asia/Pacific and Canada.

The airport is considered to be the best in Canada and continually ranks amongst one of the best in North America. Although operating since the 1930s, the current airport terminal is modern and features a number art installations that connect the airport to the local culture.

The airport serves as a hub for national flag carrier Air Canada and WestJet. The airport is also served by another 50 airlines that offer flights to cities across North America, Asia, Europe and Oceania. 

The airport features three runways that service the airports two terminals. Interestingly, the airport is one of few in the world that has a terminal dedicated to seaplanes which depart from the Fraser River. The main terminal handles both domestic and international flights with the smaller south terminal used for regional flights and seaplanes. 

The airport is located on Sea Island in Richmond, a city located approximately 12km south of downtown Vancouver. The airport is connected to the Skytrain rapid transit network via the adjacent YVR-Airport station the Canada line offering a convenient connection with downtown Vancouver. Taxis and ride-share services are also available expect the trip to take approximately half an hour.
