The Century Bar is multi-purpose venue located in the centre of Sydney’s CBD. The venue was previously known as The Century Tavern and Bar Century before adopting its current name in 2017 after significant renovation.
The venue opened in the early 1940s built in the P. & O. Ship Style of art deco architecture. The six story building would have been an impressive sight when it first and still stands out contemporarily as the city has grown around it.
Significant renovations took place in 2017 which significantly altered the interiors of the building. The impressive saloon bar that occupied the first floor was removed replaced by small hole in the wall bar, a faux retro design and several virtual dart machines.
The top three floors of the building are now occupied by The Capsule Hotel, a Japanese style capsule hotel that was the first of its kind in Australia when it opened in 2017.
