

The Estadio Monumental is stadium located in Buenos Aires, Argentina. The stadium was originally built in 1938 and currently features a capacity of 85,018 making it the largest stadium in South America. The stadium is known as for sponsorship reasons.
The stadium was built as the new home ground of River Plate and known as Estadio Antonio Vespucio Liberti upon opening. The stadium originally featured a horseshoe shape until the northern stand was completed in 1978 in preparation for Argentina hosting of that year’s FIFA World Cup.
Further renovations took place in the early 2020s that significantly modernised the 90 year old building. The running track was removed increasing the stadium’s capacity and bring spectators closer to the field.
The stadium has been the home ground of Argentine football team River Plate since its opening. The stadium is also the de facto home ground of the Argentinian national football team hosting the majority of the team’s home games.
The stadium is best known as being the principal venue for the 1978 FIFA World Cup where it hosted eight games including the final between Argentina and the Netherlands.
The stadium is located in the Belgrano neighbourhood of Buenos Aires. The stadium is located approximately 12 minutes drive away from the centre of city. You can also reach the stadium via the city’s metro network, alight at Congreso de Tucuman Station located approximately 25 walk from the stadium.
