Stadium Review: BC Place, Vancouver

BC Place is a multi-purpose stadium located in. Vancouver, Canada. The stadium opened in 1983 and features a maximum capacity of 54,500 that is adjustable depending on the event held.

Upon opening the stadium featured an air supported roof, the biggest at the time and a popular choice for indoor stadiums built in the 1980s.

In 2011, following the city’s hosting of the Winter Olympics, the stadium underwent major renovations that replaced the original roof with a modern, cable supported retractable roof with suspended videoboard. The redesigned stadium features a distinctive crown-like structure that supports the roof which is the largest of its kind in the world.

The stadium served as the main venue for the 2010 Winter Olympic Games hosting the opening and closing ceremonies. The stadium is also due to host matches at the upcoming 2026 FIFA World Cup.

The stadium also serves as the home ground of the BC Lions in the Canadian Football League and Major League Soccer’s Vancouver Whitecaps.

BC Place is located in downtown Vancouver. The stadium is easily accessible from anywhere in the city via two conveniently located SkyTrain stations. Alight at either Chinatown-Stadium Station on the Expo Line or Yaletown-Roundhouse Station on the Canada Line.
