How to Visit the Central Market Hall in Budapest

The Central Market Hall is a historic indoor market located in Budapest. The 10,000 square foot building opened in 1897 and designed by Hungarian architect Samu Pecz in the neo gothic architectural style.

The building was heavily damaged during World War II with restorations not taking place until the 1990s. With the market’s three expansive floors restored to their former glory, the market quickly became one of the city’s top attractions, popular with both locals and visitors.

You’ll find everything at the market from some of the city’s best fresh produce to every kind of paprika themed souvenir you can think of. On the second level you’ll find several restaurants and smaller food stalls where you can try traditional Hungarian dishes.

If exploring central Budapest, you’ll find the Central Market Hall at the end of the Váci utca pedestrian shopping street. If visiting from elsewhere around the city alight at the Fővám tér subway station.
