Bar Review: Plaza Hotel, CBD, Sydney

The Plaza Hotel is a bar located on Geroge Street in the centre of Sydney’s central business district. The bar can be found in part of what was formerly the Plaza Theatre, a heritage listed building that opened in 1930.

In 1995, part of the building was converted into Planet Hollywood Sydney before being converted to the Star Bar in the early 2000s. The bar would feature this name for almost 20 years keeping the famous Planet Hollywood globe for most of this time, before closing in early 2020.

In late 2024 the bar would finally reopen as the Plaza Hotel. Although never having featured accommodation of any kind within its historic building, the new name pays homage to the building it occupies and Australian pub culture.
