
Liverpool John Lennon Airport is an international airport serving the city of Liverpool. Despite its small size, the airport offers a broad list of destinations is currently the 12th busiest airport across the United Kingdom. The airport was formerly known as Speke Airport until 2001 when it was renamed after Liverpool local and member of the Beatles John Lennon.
The airport does not serve as a hub for any airline but is a focus city for easyJet, Jet2.com and Ryan Air. The airport is also serviced by another seven airlines that offer flights to Europe, North Africa and the Middle East. All flights arrive and depart from a single terminal building that is serviced by a single runway.
The current terminal is clean and spacious and features a functional design common across most airport infrastructure built in the late 1990s and early 2000s. The airport’s former art deco terminal building was preserved and now serves as the Crowne Plaza Liverpool John Lennon Airport Hotel.
As the gateway to the world’s Beatle fans there are number of attractions for fans to enjoy whilst visiting the airport. A 2-meter-tall statue of John Lennon is located inside overlooking the check in hall and a replica of the Yellow Submarine can be found just outside the terminal building.
LPL airport is located 12km from the Liverpool city centre. Arriva’s 500 bus service connects the airport to the Liverpool city centre in as little as 30 minutes. Taxis and rideshare are also readily available, a more expensive option with a slightly shorter travel time.
