The White Cockatoo Hotel is a historic hotel pub located in Petersham, a south western suburb of Sydney. Opened in 1886, the pub is a popular locals pub that features a laid-back community atmosphere.
Originally opened as The Lord Carrington Hotel, the pub was named after former Governor of NSW, Charles Robert Wynn-Carrington. The pub’s name would be shortened to the Carrington Hotel in 1922 before becoming The White Cockatoo Hotel in the 1970s. The pub became the West Village briefly in the 2000s before recently reverting back to its more popular name.
The exterior of the pub originally featured two levels of grand, wrap-around balconies which were unfortunately removed leaving the venue atheistically worst off. On the inside you’ll find a modern take on a Sydney pub with plenty of exposed brick, antique-style furnishings, pool tables and some pinball machines. As the name would suggest the pub still offers accommodation which is spread across the two upper levels.
