The Henson is a pub located in the suburb of Marrickville in the inner west of Sydney. This popular corner in the backstreets of Marrickville has been home to various pubs over the past 160 years.

The original pub to occupy the current site of The Henson was The Marrick Hotel. This pub would later become the Town Hall Hotel in the 1880s before being purchased by brewing company Tooth and Co. in the early 1900s. The pub was completely rebuilt 1936 in an art deco style using a design by famous pub architect Sidney Warden.

Over its long history, The Henson Park Hotel became known as the home of the Newtown Jets due to its proximity to the team’s nearby home ground Henson Park. The pub would eventually close in 2013 after facing potential demolition for many years. Luckly, with the help of the local community, the hotel was saved and would reopen soon after with an extensive renovation that converted the pub into one of the area’s best family friendly venues.

Reopening as The Henson, the pub now features a relaxed dining room area, a small beer garden with an attached kids play area and a small selection of arcade games, occupying the former poker machine room. The front bar area and the building’s exterior was spared any major alterations maintaining much of its classic art deco style.
