Pub Review: The Nelson Hotel, Bondi Junction, Sydney

The Nelson Hotel is a pub located in Bondi Junction, an eastern suburb of Sydney.  The pub has operated for almost 90 years and is one of the best-preserved examples of an interwar pub that can be found in Sydney.

Very little has changed at The Nelson Hotel since first opening in 1938 as part of the Tooth and Co. chain of pubs and hotels. Most of the old photos of the hotel that line the walls of the front bar resemble what you’ll still find there today. From the classic art deco inspired, Australian pub tiles to the ovaloid, island bar that sits at the centre of the front bar, it is clear how much care has gone into maintaining the timeless look and feel of The Nelson Hotel.

Like most pubs around Sydney, a number of modern additions have been made to the hotel to ensure it keeps up with modern standards. You’ll find an outdoor bistro area and beer garden at the back and a private function and dinning area upstairs. All these additions have been added with great care and do not take anything away from the timeless aesthetic of the hotel.
