Pub Review: Dundee Arms, Sydney

The Dundee Arms is a historic pub located in the centre of Sydney’s CBD. The pub originally opened in 1860 in an area that would change drastically over the next 160 years.

The pub played an important part in the maritime history of the area as a popular venue for sailors and dockworkers from the ships that were docked at nearby Darling Harbour.

Thankfully, the pub was saved during the construction of a hotel in the late 1980s which now overshadows the small, three-story sandstone building. Most of the exterior elements of the hotel remain unchanged whilst the interior of the hotel unfortunately looks a bit too polished for a pub of its age.

The pub does look rather odd in its current location, more closely resembling something you’d expect to find the historic Rocks area of Sydney. Nevertheless, it’s a miracle a place like the Dundee Arms has survived in the midst of the drastic changes that have taken place around this part of the Sydney CBD.
