Pub Review: Three Wise Monkeys, Sydney

Three Wise Monkeys is a pub located in the centre of Sydney’s CBD. The pub has been one of the city’s favourites since opening in 2000.

The pub occupies a 140-year-old heritage listed building that was once occupied by the Bank of Australia. The building still bares the name of its former occupant with the majority of its exterior remaining virtually untouched since becoming a pub almost 25 years ago. The only sign to the buildings current use is the bronze statue of the three wise monkeys perched atop of the pub’s main entrance.

The lower level resembles an English style pub with a well-attended, wood-panelled bar at its centre. A second bar can be found upstairs overlooking the lower level that provides a more intimate option for visitors. The pub also manages to squeeze in a nightclub and enough wall space for multiple TVs showing a variety of different sports.

Since opening, The Three Wise Monkeys pub has become a popular venue for both locals and visitors. Its impressive to see how much they were able to fit into the old building which feels a lot bigger than what it looks like from the outside.
