
Café Brasilero, as the name would suggest, is a café located in the city of Montevideo, Uruguay. The café is recognised as being the oldest in Montevideo having opened its doors over 140 years ago in 1877.
The walls of the café are covered in old photos of Montevideo and its people telling a story that’s almost 180-years old. Over its long history, Café Brasilero is known to have attracted a bohemian crowd of individuals. Famous tango musician Carlos Gardel, author Juan Carlos Onetti and writer Eduardo Galeano all known to have frequented the café.
Like most cafes in South America, apart from great coffee, you can expect to find a full bar and restaurant menu serving the best of local and international food and drinks. The service is excellent and up to par with what can be expected across the rest of the country.
The bar reopened 2010 after having been closed for decades, beginning a new chapter for one of the city’s most important gastronomic and cultural treasures.
